As May and Asian Heritage month draw to a close, we reflect and are so grateful for the new learning and experiences we had together.
One highlight was learning about and practicing Mizuhiki. Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese paper craft that uses colorful ornamental cords to create meaningful and elegant designs. For over 400 years, Mizuhiki has been used to decorate gifts and envelopes for special occasions such as birthday, weddings, longevity celebrations and festivals. But Mizuhiki is more than just a beautiful craft – it is believed to symbolize the connection between people with each design carrying its own special meaning.
While practicing this beautiful craft, we also enjoyed and shared a traditional Japanese treat of cheese tarts from Uncle Tetsu’s Japanese bakery – very tasty!
Thank you to all who celebrated Asian Heritage month with us – a time for cultural exchange, learning and community connection!
